Emmerdale’s huge bullying story takes a very unexpected turn tonight, as Dr Todd makes a big decision about her future at the hospital. But what does this mean for struggling Jacob Sugden?

Friday’s episode sees Jacob make a shock discovery that leaves him wondering whether his ordeal is finally over. But Dr Todd may have a new target in her sights…

Jacob’s cruel boss admitted that she fabricated evidence against him this week, but while he attempted to record the confession, Todd realised what he was doing so seized his phone and deleted the audio file.

Still upset by what happened the previous day, tonight Jacob’s mental state deteriorates further when he finds Dr Todd acting pally with Kerry in the village – with previously suspicious Kerry having been convinced that she is nice after all.

He expresses his concerns to Sarah, who tries to reassure him and urges him to report yesterday’s incident to HR in his meeting today, but Jacob feels more defeated about the situation than ever.

When he gets to the hospital, Dr Todd tells Jacob that she has told Carol about their latest run in, claiming that he turned up at her house and harassed her, and Jacob is frustrated that his boss has got in before him once again.

But Jacob then spots some colleagues presenting Todd with a bunch of flowers, and he finds out that she has decided to take early retirement following her dad’s death, and that she would be leaving the hospital with immediate effect.

Later, Dr Todd and Vanessa toast her retirement at the pub with a bottle of champagne, and as Jacob watches on furiously, Sarah reminds her husband that he at least won’t have to work with her anymore. But Jacob is keen to drop the complaint against Todd, now she is leaving.

After Jacob overhears Todd on the phone to fellow junior doctor Richard, she suggests to him that he will find it difficult to get a good job without the recommendation of a well-respected mentor.

Todd then tells Vanessa that she has chosen to retire early because of Jacob’s harassment, and sadly Vanessa believes every word of this smear campaign.
