Coronation Street legend Tracy Shaw shares update after cancer diagnosis

The actress, famed for playing Maxine Peacock in the ITV soap, recently revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer

Coronation Street legend Tracy Shaw has shared an update with fans after recently revealing she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The actress, who is best known for having played Maxine Peacock in the ITV soap between 1995 and 2003, before the character was famously murdered by Richard Hillman, shared the news last month in a social media post.

She said: “My diagnosis of breast cancer. So the journey begins…” before sharing a video going into more detail. Tracy shared: “I have come on just to explain a situation that is happening in my life”, she said in the video.

“I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Originally I was going to be having surgery in two weeks, but because my results have come back that I am HER2 positive, it means I have to have chemo for five months. Then [there is] hopefully surgery to have lumps removed and take the nymph glands out so they can do some more tests. And possibly more surgery before radiotherapy.”

She was quickly flooded with support from Corrie stars past and present, with Samia Longchambon commenting: “Sending love to you, Tracy,” while Sally Ann Matthews wrote: “Love you, baby girl x.”

Now, Tracy has returned to social media with her latest update. She shared a strong of photos on Instagram, the first being a selfie of the former soap star which was captioned: “Treatment plan day.”

Another snap showed a sign of the Cheshire Cancer Centre, while in the third photo, Tracy could be seen getting her blood taken. Alongside the last image, which was another selfie, Tracy said: “A lot of side effects.” She captioned the update: “Chemo treatment plan. THANKYOU NHS Lots of health checks before we start, appointments all next week, checking heart, liver, kidneys etc. Friday they will insert clips into the cancer lumps to track the chemo progress.”

She was soon flooded with messages of support. @marieswayne said: “Sending love and hugs I know what you will be doing through.” @sammyjean_davies commented: “Sharing your journey will help so many and those that have walked this path will help you too , lots of love.” @prestonredmufc added: “Wishing you all the very best for a full recovery Tracy.”
