THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL: CORONATION STREET FANS UNCOVER A MIND-BLOWING STEVE AND BEN TWIST THAT CHANGES THE COBBLES FOREVER!

worried glance from Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) has left a number of Coronation Street fans with a wild theory – and it’s one that would quite literally change everything if it were to come to pass.

Maggie isn’t exactly renowned for her warm demeanour – quite the opposite in that she often pipes up and speaks her mind when something is bothering her – but some viewers couldn’t help but notice that she seemed noticeably – albeit quietly – unnerved last week.

In Friday’s (February 20) visit to the cobbles, the new Rovers landlady was seen glaring over at son Ben (Aaron McCusker), who was enjoying a pint and a good chinwag with local Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), who he’s developed quite the friendship with.

In a bid to cut short the two’s bonding session, Maggie attempted to coax Steve into going home but, when he ordered more drinks, she was left with little choice but to comply, though she did so with a look on unease on her face.

Just what has got Maggie behaving in such a way? Why does she appear to have taken umbrage with our Steve?

Has the cab driver done something to antagonise her? Not that we’re currently aware of – at least nothing that has been on screen – and yet she’s clearly not keen on the burgeoning bromance between him and her son.

Fans were quick to note the unexpected reaction from Maggie – and they reckon they’ve got it sussed. And when I say it would be a game-changing twist, I really mean it.

‘With the way that Maggie was looking at Ben and Steve tonight my money’s on Jim McDonald being Ben’s Dad too,’ wrote user G620 on X, formerly known as Twitter.

It was a sentiment that fan Jack agreed with, writing ‘Jim is Bens dad, i’ll put my house on it.,’ while Rachel added: ‘why does Maggie look concerned at Steve & Ben being pally? Dalliance with Jim back in the day perhaps? BROTHERS PERHAPS?!’

As viewers will recall, Coronation Street did confirm previously that Maggie had an affair while married to Ben’s dad Alan (Aidan O’Callaghan).

A flashback episode in December revealed that Maggie pushed Alan down the stairs during a heated discussion about their marriage – and said affair – confirming that she’s not someone you’d want to get on the wrong side of.

And while the show has yet to reveal anything about who the affair was with, Jim McDonald (Charles Lawson) being the culprit would certainly turn everything on its head.

Last week, Steve and Ben discussed their newfound friendship, speculating that their connection is down to the Irish in their blood, so it’s certainly a possibility.

Jim McDonald, meanwhile, is set to be killed off in upcoming scenes. Steve is taken aback in scenes this week when he learns that his dad has named him guarantor – and thus he’s forced to fork out the money for unpaid rent on the patriarch’s flat.
