Once upon a time, fireworks displays looked at these two and were like, “Dang! We gotta step up our game!” There was never — and we do mean never! — a dull moment between the former WSB slickster and the onetime B-movie starlet who became his real-life leading lady.

On paper, the geektastic Jackal and his Maximista might not have made a whole lotta sense. Anywhere else, however, and the BFFs were the perfect couple, a yin/yang pairing that left our hearts skipping a beat even as they decided not to exchange “I dos.”

They say that opposites attract, but these two certainly prove that it isn’t only opposites that do. The scheme team could never make a relationship last — not for long, anyway — but they also could never make it end. With apologies to Kevin, we still think they’re endgame.

They never managed to last very long. But oh, what memories they made. The hitman’s life was far too dangerous for the working mom to accept. Yet at the same time, her smoldering attraction to the stoic tough guy was far too great for her to deny.

Rarely were the fates unkinder to a twosome than they were to this one. The star-crossed lovers survived her cancer, his evil lookalike and even the machinations of Grandmommie Dearest Helena Cassadine. And for what? Emily wound up being taken out by the Text-Message Killer!

Nope. There was no coming back for “Julexis” after the “reformed” mobster held a knife to his wife’s throat. But when the two of them were throwing sparks instead of making threats, there wasn’t a couple in Port Charles that was hotter.

After Luke and Laura Spencer’s teenage son supported his high-school classmate following her rape, their friendship slowly deepened, in time blossoming into the kind of sweet love we would’ve wagered a fortune would last a lifetime.

Damn the Grim Reaper! Even after the Scottish mobster cheated death once to return to his the arms of his “widow,” the ultimate spoiler reared its ugly head yet again and left the Laverys’ relationship as deeply buried as poor Duke himself.

You know the thin line between love and hate? The Bickersons crossed it so frequently that, by the time Alan passed away, it was barely visible anymore. On the plus side, he and his better half had finally realized that they were made for each other.

Ah, the dragon and the phoenix. They forged a bond that we would’ve sworn was unbreakable. Even death couldn’t keep them apart for long. Alas, finally Sam decided that to protect her kids’ lives, Jason couldn’t be in her life anymore.

Mac Scorpio may have gotten the girl in the end. But for years, where there was a case to be cracked, an adventure to be had, a feat of derring-do to be performed, you could always find the former marrieds. Usually kissing while dodging bullets!

It took some work, that’s for sure. But eventually, Robert and Anna’s doctor daughter transformed Noah Drake’s womanizing son into the kinda guy that not only she but an even tougher critic — we! — could feel was deserving of her affections.

“It was a great ride.” Oh, it was much more than that, and the dimpled don knew it even as he sent that message via his right-hand man Jason to break the heart of fiancée Brenda — at the altar, no less. Maybe moths drawn to a flame are always destined to burn.

The beginning of the Spencers’ relationship was, is and ever shall be disturbing beyond words. But there’s no denying that Anthony Geary and Genie Francis’ decades-long partnership resulted in a love story so incredible that it set the bar for every romance that followed.
