25. Cody and Sasha
After months of crying, “Kiss! Kiss already” in hopes that Brando’s widow and her handsome pal would do exactly that, we were left crying foul in 2024 when her mom Holly came to town for just long enough to reveal that — no, no, a thousand times, no! — the would-be lovers were cousins.
24. Tiffany and Sean
Once upon a time, fireworks displays looked at these two and were like, “Dang! We gotta step up our game!” There was never — and we do mean never! — a dull moment between the former WSB slickster and the onetime B-movie starlet who became his real-life leading lady.
23. Maxie and Spinelli
On paper, the geektastic Jackal and his Maximista might not have made a whole lotta sense. Anywhere else, however, and the BFFs were the perfect couple, a yin/yang pairing that left our hearts skipping a beat even as they decided not to exchange “I dos.”
22. Lucy and Scotty
They say that opposites attract, but these two certainly prove that it isn’t only opposites that do. The scheme team could never make a relationship last — not for long, anyway — but they also could never make it end. With apologies to Kevin, we still think they’re endgame.
21. Sonny and Nina
What happened in Nixon Falls didn’t stay in Nixon Falls. On the contrary, the relationship that was borne of the latest Mrs. Corinthos’ anger at her predecessor turned into a love to last a lifetime… or at least until the mercurial mafioso learned his missus’ secret.
20. Ned and Lois
What’s in a name? Never mind that when the Bensonhurst babe fell for her future husband, she believed that he was a rock-singing pharmaceutical salesman called Eddie Maine. The feelings that sprang up between the odd couple were as sincere as his love songs.
19. Sam and Dante
As if we needed any reminders of how cruel the fates can be, Jason’s former moll had only just gotten engaged to Port Charles’ most upstanding detective when the nice, safe, sane life that she envisioned for them was cut short by her murder at the hand syringe of menace to society Cyrus.
18. Tony and Bobbie
Who says friends can’t be lovers? Though tragedy stayed as hot on their heels as their shadows, the Joneses were for years the happiest, most stable duo in Port Charles. If only they hadn’t suffered the one-two punch of Damian Smith’s scheme and daughter B.J.’s death.
17. Scotty and Dominique
They married in haste and repented… never. The union that started out as a marriage of convenience evolved into the realest of real loves. Which only made it that much more painful when the life the Baldwins were planning together was cut short but her untimely demise.
16. Robert and Holly
The WSB agent was only being a good friend to Luke Spencer when he wed his “late” buddy’s pregnant girlfriend to save her from deportation. But it turned out the arrangement was really Cupid’s roundabout way of making them see that they were made for one another.
15. Spencer and Trina
Arguably the soap’s hottest young couple since the one at No. 5, “Sprina” overcame one treacherous girlfriend (Esme Prince), one inconvenient boyfriend (RIP, Rory Cabrera), the Hook killer and a typically apocalyptic Cassadine plot to be together.
14. Elizabeth and Jason
They never managed to last very long. But oh, what memories they made. The hitman’s life was far too dangerous for the working mom to accept. Yet at the same time, her smoldering attraction to the stoic tough guy was far too great for her to deny.
13. Stone and Robin
You never forget your first love — or Robin’s. The heroine gave her whole heart to Sonny’s ward, only to have it shattered when they both tested positive for HIV and he ultimately succumbed to the ravages of AIDS. (More about the groundbreaking storyline here.)
12. Emily and Nikolas
Rarely were the fates unkinder to a twosome than they were to this one. The star-crossed lovers survived her cancer, his evil lookalike and even the machinations of Grandmommie Dearest Helena Cassadine. And for what? Emily wound up being taken out by the Text-Message Killer!
11. Alexis and Julian
Nope. There was no coming back for “Julexis” after the “reformed” mobster held a knife to his wife’s throat. But when the two of them were throwing sparks instead of making threats, there wasn’t a couple in Port Charles that was hotter.
10. Elizabeth and Lucky
After Luke and Laura Spencer’s teenage son supported his high-school classmate following her rape, their friendship slowly deepened, in time blossoming into the kind of sweet love we would’ve wagered a fortune would last a lifetime.
9. Anna and Duke
Damn the Grim Reaper! Even after the Scottish mobster cheated death once to return to his the arms of his “widow,” the ultimate spoiler reared its ugly head yet again and left the Laverys’ relationship as deeply buried as poor Duke himself.
8. Alan and Monica
You know the thin line between love and hate? The Bickersons crossed it so frequently that, by the time Alan passed away, it was barely visible anymore. On the plus side, he and his better half had finally realized that they were made for each other.
7. Sam and Jason
Ah, the dragon and the phoenix. They forged a bond that we would’ve sworn was unbreakable. Even death couldn’t keep them apart for long. Alas, finally Sam decided that to protect her kids’ lives, Jason couldn’t be in her life anymore.
6. Frisco and Felicia
Mac Scorpio may have gotten the girl in the end. But for years, where there was a case to be cracked, an adventure to be had, a feat of derring-do to be performed, you could always find the former marrieds. Usually kissing while dodging bullets!
5. Laura and Scotty
Everybody forgot about the young marrieds’ supercouple status when the pairing at No. 1 erupted. Not us, though. We’ll always remember the embattled sweethearts whose fraught relationship saved nothing less than the whole damn show from cancellation!
4. Carly and Sonny
They can break up all they like. They can even marry other people. But, owing to Maurice Benard’s chemistry with the actresses who’ve put their stamp on the mobster’s favorite moll, the Port Charles power couple will forever be endgame to a huge legion of fans.
3. Robin and Patrick
It took some work, that’s for sure. But eventually, Robert and Anna’s doctor daughter transformed Noah Drake’s womanizing son into the kinda guy that not only she but an even tougher critic — we! — could feel was deserving of her affections.
2. Brenda and Sonny
“It was a great ride.” Oh, it was much more than that, and the dimpled don knew it even as he sent that message via his right-hand man Jason to break the heart of fiancée Brenda — at the altar, no less. Maybe moths drawn to a flame are always destined to burn.
1. Luke and Laura
The beginning of the Spencers’ relationship was, is and ever shall be disturbing beyond words. But there’s no denying that Anthony Geary and Genie Francis’ decades-long partnership resulted in a love story so incredible that it set the bar for every romance that followed.
