Reports from The Sun claim that Thompson is already filming, with a source stating that fans will be delighted by Charlie’s unexpected comeback, as the character was never killed off.
It is understood that Thompson’s return will be a temporary appearance rather than a permanent rejoining of the fixed cast.
The Independent has contacted the BBC for comment regarding the potential return of the character, who was previously described by the corporation as the “lynchpin of the hospital’s emergency department”.
