Is Weatherfield really about to give us wedding bells and a body bag in the same week?

The Drama and why we all love a wedding from hell

Coronation Street fans are convinced they’ve cracked the code on when Lisa Swain and Carla Connor, aka Swarla, will finally tie the knot. And if they’re right, the big day could end in absolute chaos.

After months of emotional rollercoasters, break-ups, kidnappings, and one very dramatic return from the dead, Lisa and Carla are finally back on solid ground. Fans were over the moon to see the couple reunite after their latest nightmare, and it’s safe to say they’ve seriously been through it since giving in to their feelings at the end of 2024.

Just when they got engaged, and things were looking blissfully happy, along came Becky Swain. Lisa’s supposedly-dead ex-wife. Becky chose Betsy’s 18th birthday for her jaw-dropping comeback, clearly determined to rebuild her family no matter who she had to bulldoze in the process.

And bulldoze she did.

Becky managed to wedge herself between Lisa and Carla, even convincing Lisa and Betsy to consider running away abroad to start a brand new life. But that wasn’t going to happen if Carla had anything to do with it. Carla teamed up with DC Kit Green to expose Becky and DI Costello, uncovering what was really going on.

Things escalated fast. Carla was kidnapped and locked in a storage container, and Becky’s grand escape plan ended in disaster when she was involved in a horrific car crash on the way to Hull to catch a ferry to Rotterdam during the iconic Corriedale earlier last month.

Thankfully, Lisa and Betsy survived. Becky did too, but her freedom didn’t. Lisa arrested her straight from the ambulance, and she was later sentenced to 12 years behind bars.

With Becky finally out of the picture, the door was wide open for Lisa and Carla to find their way back to each other.

Coronation Street - Peter Ash on Paul's emotional wedding scenes

Now, with producer Kate Brooks teasing wedding bells for Swarla this spring, fans think they’ve pinpointed the exact moment it all goes down… and it involves Betsy looking suspiciously wedding-ready.

Next Monday, Corrie kicks off with a visibly shaken Betsy being questioned by police after discovering a dead body. As the detective restarts the tape, we learn the interview is actually taking place in April. The episode flips between present-day scenes and the day of the murder, ending with five possible victims on the board. So… who’s dead? And who did it?

But here’s what really caught fans’ attention: Betsy’s outfit. She looks far too dressed up for a casual trip to the station. Which has sparked a theory: was she at Lisa and Carla’s wedding when she stumbled across the body?

Fans took to X to share their suspicions:

‘I know it can’t always be about Carla and Lisa, but Betsy being in formal dress could be for the wedding. Betsy’s alone because she’s an adult now and Lisa can’t be with her (conflict of interest), but she CAN have Carla there.

‘Bridesmaid era for Betsy?’

‘Oooh no! Poor Betsy finding a dead body!! But who is it?? #corrie #swarla 💀💀💀

If Betsy was dressed for her mum’s big day, that means Lisa and Carla’s long-awaited wedding could be overshadowed by murder. Classic Corrie timing.

A dream ceremony turning into a crime scene? Honestly, would we expect anything less from Weatherfield?
