Why is there no Casualty tonight?
Casualty has been taken off air for the second week in a row, leaving fans disappointed.
Devotees of the long-running medical drama will have noticed its absence from BBC One this evening, 4 April, marking another week without the beloved programme.
The series was removed from last week’s line-up to accommodate The Big Night of Musicals, and supporters were hopeful it would make a swift return.
Unfortunately, the show remains missing from Saturday evening viewing as another major event has taken priority, leaving audiences disheartened.
BBC Studios secured the contract to produce the next three series of the enduring programme in December 2025.
Nevertheless, fans have now gone without seeing their cherished Holby characters for a fortnight, and here’s everything you need to understand about this week’s absence.

Why isn’t Casualty on tonight?
Casualty will be absent from BBC One tonight as the broadcaster is screening FA Cup coverage throughout most of the evening.
Match of the Day Live will run from 5pm until 10.05pm, featuring two separate fixtures that are replacing Casualty’s regular time slot.
The quarter-final programming will begin with Chelsea versus Port Vale, before Southampton take on Arsenal.
Audiences must wait until Saturday, 11 April, for Casualty to resume on the BBC One schedule.
The drama went off air in September 2025 and underwent a five-month break before returning this January. First broadcast in 1986, Casualty holds the record as the world’s longest-running primetime medical drama.
Viewers flocked to X, previously known as Twitter, to express their disappointment over the programme’s absence, with one writing: “Settled down for Saturday night telly and just realised there is no #Casualty.”
Another vented their frustration: “When the BBC f**** about with Saturday night schedules, why is #Casualty always the first, erm casualty?”
Later this year, the series will relocate to a new fictional Welsh hospital, introducing several Welsh characters to the storyline.
