We’re still trying to process the fact that General Hospital‘s Nathan is not actually Nathan. He’s Cassius Faison, Nathan’s identical twin brother, and longtime henchperson of Sidwell. But while this is all new to us (though not exactly a surprise), it’s old-hat for Cassius who’s been playing the role since the car crash. And it’s a role that Cassius has taken quite a liking to.
Ryan Paevey spoke with Soap Opera Digest and admitted that he knew this twist from the start. And Cassius isn’t a good guy. From being Faison’s son, to working with uber-villains like Sidwell and Cullum, that much is clear. But at the same time, Paevey says, “he’s not a bad guy in the way that Faison is a bad guy.”
So does that mean he could ever BE a good guy? Well, he’s enjoying being Nathan and being so loved by everyone! “I think that the way that people treated him as Nathan really opened Cassius’s eyes to, ‘This is nice!’” Paevey admitted. “‘I’ll be Nathan as long as I can. I don’t wanna go back to being me. This is better.’”

And it’s definitely changed him. He could have told Sidwell about Rocco shooting Cullum, but he didn’t. He kept the secret and protected the teen and Lulu. Something tells us that Sidwell won’t be happy about that — especially if this just feeds into a war with Sonny that could go very badly for him.
As Paevey put it to Digest, “There are now people that [Cassius] cares about, and I think that’s a great point of vulnerability for Cassius, because he’s never really had to worry about that before.” But despite everyone he’s gained as Nathan, “he only gets to keep them if the secret holds.”
One of the first reactions online upon learning the truth was for fans to point out that he’s slept with Lulu by tricking her into thinking he’s someone else, which is rape. Then there’s the James of it all, with a poor kid thinking his dad’s back from the dead. There’s putting Maxie through the fight with Lulu, Nina and Obrecht thinking Nathan’ back, his entire “job” at the PCPD.

If the truth came out, even if he did somehow avoid jail, he’d lose everyone and everything that he’s apparently come to enjoy and love.
He could keep up the ruse if there was no one to expose him. But so long as folks out there knew the truth, he’d be at constant risk. So would he turn on Sidwell, Cullum and Pascal and take them out so he could live this new, fake life?
Would he take out Britt? It seems pretty certain she knows — he’s the “C” who delivered her meds back in the beginning of this mess, and he’s almost certainly the one she said wouldn’t let anyone hurt her. But he’s already agreed with Sidwell that she’s a liability. So is part of that knowing that so long as she knows his secret, he may lose everything he’s gained?
Britt could be just the first step in eliminating everyone who could expose him. We’re sure no one will be sad if he starts taking down the villains to “become” Nathan. But if he has to go after others in Port Charles, too, Cassius could end up with far too much blood on his hands to ever wash off.
