As all General Hospital fans know by now, Jason’s paying the price for helping out Rocco and has been whisked off by the WSB to disappear into a hole. And Steve Burton’s break from the ABC soap has officially begun.

The actor originally thought he might be airing into April, but he confirmed on the latest episode of his and Bradford Anderson’s podcast, That’s Awesome With Steve And Bradford, that last week was it for him.

“I wasn’t sure,” Burton admitted, “because a lot of times when we get the script, there’s multiple shows in that script. But the day of air of the show, at the time, said April 2nd. So I thought maybe I was trickling into April.”

But while the duo were on the road, the fans were telling them that it looked like Jason was done — he was taken away in a van and, well, that was that. “I remember you telling me, ‘The last thing I know of is that I get taken away in a van,’” Anderson recalled.

“That’s is, that’s it,” Burton added, nodding. “We’re done.”

And though there aren’t specifics yet about exactly when Jason is coming back, Burton did say as he announced his break, that he and Jason would be back onscreen this summer. But that doesn’t mean things will be back to normal or that Jason would necessarily even be back in Port Charles!

Because as we saw last week, Carly’s already asking Valentin how they can break Jason out of WSB custody. And Burton feels pretty confident that Valentin will help make it happen, if he can.

“I think there’s a mutual respect there [between Jason and Valentin] to some degree,” Burton mused on the podcast. “We’ve had enough interactions where I know what he’s capable of. And he probably knows what I’m capable of right, and then you put Carly in the mix. And then you’ve got anti-Brennan [sentiment] also in the mix.”

But even if Valentin does help and he and Carly do manage to stage the prisoner break, Jason would still pay a heavy price.

“They’re setting me up to be a fugitive,” Burton mused to Anderson. Much like Valentin, Jason would have to go into hiding — or on the run. “But they’re also setting it up, I think, that there could be a resolution. Because they know I didn’t shoot Cullum and that’s why I was arrested.”
