EastEnders has confirmed Nicola Mitchell’s sinister threat to Penny Branning, as she uncovers a shocking secret involving her son Harry. This week, Penny went to her first baby scan and discovered that she was further along in her pregnancy than she thought, which meant that Vinny Panesar was likely not the father.

She opened up to Lauren and Oscar about her unexpected news and told her cousins that her baby’s dad could be none other than her ex, Harry.

Lauren and Oscar demanded answers in today’s episode, and Penny explained that she and Harry slept together just before he left for detox – but she always assumed the baby was Vinny’s, as they didn’t use protection.

While Lauren encouraged Penny to be honest and take a paternity test, Oscar suggested that she could keep the truth under wraps without blowing her life up.

Suki approached Penny to make amends after her previous harsh treatment of her, but Penny felt guilty so she snapped and said that she couldn’t accept the shop that Vinny was in the process of buying her.

When Suki confronted Penny about her change of heart in the café, Nicola warned her off then took Penny back to Harry’s Barn, where she apologised for being short with her at the hospital the previous day.

Over a mocktail, Penny and Nicola spoke honestly about their respective pregnancies. Nicola sensed something was wrong, and Penny ended up admitting that something unexpected came up at her scan.

After clashing with his mum again, Vinny took Penny to an empty shop near McKlunky’s and told her he had raised enough from an old watch chain found by Priya to fund the first six months of the lease. Penny was stunned and decided to commit to her future with Vinny.

Meanwhile, Harry told his mum about Gina not wanting kids and admitted that he slept with Penny last year – and Nicola finally put the pieces together.

Nicola approached Penny and revealed that she knew everything. Penny denied the idea that her baby is Harry’s, so Nicola urged her to do a DNA test to prove this.

“You do a test, show me the results, then all this will be cleared up,” she warned. “Unless, of course, you want me to go and talk to Harry, or your fella? See what they think about all this. It’s up to you.”
