Coronation Street fans think Roy Cropper’s life could be in danger as they shared their thoughts that another Weatherfield resident could be ‘capable of murder’.

As those who follow the ITV soap will recall, the beloved cafe owner was stunned earlier this year when he was confronted by Mal Roper, a man he didn’t know who arrived at Roy’s Rolls and ended up punching him in the face as he believed he was having an affair with his wife behind his back.

Mal revealed himself to be the husband of Alice, Roy’s penpal after he joined an organisation that connected him with prisoners in order to share correspondence. But Roy soon found himself in a continued exchange with Alice, who he believed her son was in prison, and the pair had arranged to meet, and when he was unable to make the meet-up, Roy sent Alice flowers.

And Roy got quite the surprise when it was the bouquet that Mal arrived with. While Roy insisted there was no romantic feelings, as he’d only sent the flowers having missed their planned meeting, Mal revealed they’d been married for 31 years with three children together.

Mal was later seen drinking in the Chariot Square Hotel when Bernie Winter arrived and struggling with grief following the death of her son-in-law, Billy Mayhew, the pair ended up going up to a room where they drank and took drugs. Mal made a pass at Bernie, who rejected her advances as she’s married to Dev Alahan, before leaving.

However, she hasn’t been able to shake Mal off since, with him coming up with ways to stick around Weatherfield. But when he was thought to have been attacked, Mal’s terrifying behaviour towards Bernie appeared to be over.

That wasn’t quite the case, however, and Bernie’s hell seems to just be beginning as during the latest visit to the cobbles on Thursday (March 26), he stepped up his campaign to try and win Bernie over, in more sinister fashion.

Bernie was seen visiting Mal in his hotel room, after he forced her to come to the Chariot Square Hotel and sleep with him so he will drop the charges against her husband, Dev Alahan, after he claimed he was the one who attacked him. But as viewers, and Bernie, know, it was her son, Kit Green, who was behind the altercation with her stalker.

As she knocked on Mal’s door, Ryan Connor looked on, concerned. Once inside Mal’ room, she downed some wine, deliberately ate a cheese and onion sandwich to bide her time and try and put Mal off the idea of being intimate with her. She also made it clear that she was only there to protect her family, but Mal admitted his belief that one day she will reciprocate his ‘romantic’ feelings.

However, things soon escalated, with Mal’s temper rising as he accused Bernie of dragging things out, and when she mentioned that he was still grieving the loss of his marriage, he hit out, accusing her of “patronising” him and even of “stringing me along from the get go”.

He started to insult her and as his behaviour become more erratic, Bernie picked up a corkscrew and held it between her fingers, ready to defend herself, just as Ryan Connor burst into the room and held Mal back, telling Bernie to call the police. She bargained with Mal to get the charges dropped against Dev, to which he agreed, before leaving in tears.

And after watching Mal’s behaviour escalate once more, and with spoilers for next week confirming that he is sticking around, some Corrie fans are linking him to a reported upcoming storyline that will see Roy’s life at risk and his livlihood in flames.

On Reddit, fluffy3118 said: “Had a thought how this whole Mal thing could end without Kit or Bernie getting into any trouble. He attacks Bernie on the night of the Swarla wedding, one of the 5 possible victims gets caught up in it and they end up dead. Mal is arrested for both murder and the attack and his “attack” gets forgotten about or he ends up telling that it was Kit but no one believes him because he’s just murdered someone.”

arctikmonkee replied: “He is a psycho and I think capable of murder.” HistoryGood543 theorised: “Maybe that’s how Roy’s place catches on fire, the fight happens there? Bernie is there closing up while Roy is at the wedding.” ddttm suggested: “Fire caused by dodgy electrics, which Mal is responsible for?”

MoistPossibility3446 added: “I feel like the entire murder situation is either gonna end with Mal lighting Roy’s rolls on fire, maybe Jodie as she likes to cause mischief and frame other people for it, Carl or Theo gets involved accidentally, they get murdered. Or the entire fire thing is just a distraction and Megan gets killed by someone else (probably Maggie).”
