SARAH PLATT’S WORLD TURNED UPSIDE DOWN AS TINA O’BRIEN’S REAL-LIFE CONNECTION TO THE NEWEST FAMILY IS FINALLY EXPOSED
In portraying Sarah Platt for over 25 years, Tina O’Brien has met plenty of new faces during her time on Coronation Street. Following the arrival of a new character, you’d think the case would be the same, but O’Brien actually has a connection to the ITV soap’s latest stars.
Earlier this week, Carla Connor and Lisa Swain were stunned as a baby was mysteriously left on their doorstep. It turned out that the child, Connie, was Carla’s niece, with the little girl being the daughter of Rob.
Despite Connie being a single character, the baby is played by both Aoife and Erin O’Neill. This casting of twins for a baby isn’t unusual in the world of soap, as it enables producers to evenly split filming time between the pair.
It turns out that O’Brien has a small link to Aoife and Erin, who were both cast in the soap with assistance from The Drama MOB. The Manchester-based company was co-founded by O’Brien in 2013, and they shared a post following the casting.
“We are so incredibly proud of our mini mobsters, twins Aoife & Erin, who are playing baby Connie in a powerful new storyline on Coronation Street,” wrote the company in a post on Instagram.
“Connie’s sudden arrival on the doorstep at No.6 sparks an emotional chain of events for Carla is forced to confront painful memories from her past. We can’t wait to see how the story unfolds!”
The post was received warmly by fans and followers of the soap in the comment section, with one happy viewer writing: “OMG they are so cute and they actually look like a real-life family 
”
The storyline means that Carla has to confront her family history, with Connie being born after Rob had a fling with a prison guard named Mandy. Despite wanting to help the baby, Carla feels some inner pain of being reminded about Rob.
“As if Rob Donovan hadn’t brought enough trouble into their lives, now he’s disrupting things again,” our Corrie source explains. “Although, as Lisa points out, this isn’t Connie’s fault. She can’t help that her dad is a wrong’un who wants nothing to do with her.”
“More to the point, if Carla won’t take in Connie while the rest of her family aren’t around, she’ll end up going into care. Is that really what Carla wants for her own flesh and blood?” they continued.
