BUSINESS IN JEOPARDY: GEORGE SHUTTLEWORTH’S REPUTATION SHATTERED AS NEW SCANDAL COSTS HIM A MAJOR CLIENT

Coronation Street‘s George Shuttleworth faces a new workplace scandal tonight as sweet-natured client Mrs Ripley collapses at the undertakers. With suspicion and scrutiny already surrounding George’s business, could he soon be blamed for this cruel twist of fate?
George is facing a desperate mission to save Shuttleworth’s amid false allegations that he scammed an elderly woman into naming him in her will. So when Mrs Ripley – another pensioner – takes a turn for the worse tonight, it’s fair to say that the timing couldn’t be any worse for George.
Thursday’s episode sees George carefully consider his next move, as spiteful new character Annie is wrongly accusing him of scamming her late mum out of £10,000.
George tells his partner Christina Boyd that he might turn down the cash to draw a line under things, but she firmly disagrees with this idea.
“You are entitled to that money,” Christina points out. “Backing down’s not going to make any odds.
“It’ll vindicate [Annie] – what if it gets out? People round here will start going: ‘Why did he back down? Must have been some truth behind the allegations…’”
When George suggests that he’s damned either way in that case, Christina replies: “Well, yes, maybe! But it’ll be a lot easier with £10,000 to soften the blow!”
Later, Mrs Ripley pays a visit to the undertakers and reveals that she’s willing to give George another chance to organise her sister’s funeral. Mrs Ripley had been angered by some untrustworthy behaviour from Christina the day before, but it seems that she doesn’t hold a grudge for long.
